Critical Careers - Women Building Careers in Digital Infrastructure - Book - Page 93
When you’ve come to
the end of your career,
what do you hope
you will have helped
change?
I hope that when I step away from my career, I look around and see
women in this industry who feel genuinely comfortable being there.
Today, it can still feel intimidating to enter. It’s a very maledominated space, and that creates barriers before women even
get started. So for me, progress looks like more women not
questioning whether they belong, but simply knowing they do.
I’d also hope that some of the conversations we’re still having now
have disappeared. Things like the pay gap shouldn’t still be up for
discussion. It should just be a given that people are paid fairly for
the work they do.
But beyond that, I think a real shift needs to happen in how the
industry supports women once they’re in. We focus a lot on
attracting talent, but not enough on what happens next. Being
properly welcomed, supported early on, and set up to succeed
makes a huge difference, especially in those 昀椀rst months. I’d love
to see an industry be more intentional about that.
Ultimately, it’s about creating an environment where women don’t
just enter the industry, but stay, grow, and feel like they’re exactly
where they’re meant to be.
