Critical Careers
SENIOR LEADER
How would you describe your leadership
style today and how has it evolved from
earlier in your career?
I lead from the front, but not in a “you do this” kind of way. For me,
leadership is about communication, motivation, clarity and helping
people de昀椀ne their role in a way that works for them. I do not
micromanage. In fact, because I travel so much, I have to give people
a lot of autonomy and trust them to lead their areas well.
What I try to do is give people the information, the context and the
culture. I am very clear on values, customer experience, and what good
looks like. Then I ask them: how do you want to approach this? How
would you do it? What do you need to succeed?
I also work very hard to get people functioning as one team. I have four
departments, and my role is not to run each one in isolation. It is to make
sure they understand the overall goal, how they connect to each other,
and how their part contributes to the bigger picture. If they understand
that, they are more motivated, more engaged and more invested in
the outcome.

That probably comes from my own background. I have always been very
team-oriented, both in work and at home. I run my home life in a similar
way. Everyone has a role to play, everyone knows the end goal, and
everyone contributes.
