Critical Careers
SENIOR LEADER
Tell me about your career and the de昀椀ning
moments that shaped your path.
When I was younger, I considered trying to make it as a professional
singer before pursuing a career in law. After university, I actually
performed for a (very!) short period of time as the leading lady in a
Baroque opera that toured around Wales. It was a great experience, but
it made me realise that I would not have much autonomy as a performer
– I’d be bringing someone else’s vision to life. I wanted a career where I
could bring more of my own thinking and views into what I was doing and
where I could shape outcomes rather than just deliver them.
So, the law it was. I was fortunate that Eversheds was very open and nonhierarchical. Even at a junior level, I was able to suggest different ways
of doing things, particularly around ef昀椀ciency and the use of technology,
and those ideas were genuinely listened to and implemented.
I quali昀椀ed into real estate law and worked on increasingly large and
complex transactions, including acquiring global headquarters for major
corporates. There was a large pitch for one client that clearly required
a tech-led solution. I was given the opportunity to run with it, and that
ultimately led to me jointly setting up a legal tech offering within our real
estate team. That has since grown into a signi昀椀cant part of our business
and has changed how we deliver work for clients.

Moving into digital infrastructure felt like a natural 昀椀t between complex
legal work and my interest in technology.. It was a very different area –
fast-moving, truly international and constantly evolving. It’s genuinely
exciting to be so involved in the global infrastructure which underpins
modern life.
