Adaptive water management
Ultra low WUE at our KLON-03 facility
Through detailed analysis of cooling system operations and
environmental conditions, we have focussed on the 昀椀lling and
draining of our cooling systems in 2025-26.
During 2025-26 we worked closely with our facilities
management partner, CBRE, to undertake a comprehensive
review of our water management strategy. This is helping Kao
Data to identify opportunities to further enhance operational
ef昀椀ciency and reduce potable water consumption across its
facilities. We also updated our Environment & Energy Policy
to include stipulations and strategies around water usage and
water risks.
By ensuring water usage is optimised during periods of lower
environmental demand we have realised a signi昀椀cant reduction in
unnecessary water consumption without impacting contractual risk
and maintaining optimal customer service.

By using closed-loop cooling systems
and dry air coolers we are eliminating
reliance on evaporative water use,
while maintaining resilience, cooling
昀氀exibility and performance under
elevated ambient conditions.

WATER USAGE
At our new KLON-03 facility we have piloted innovative
water ef昀椀cient cooling systems that minimise potable water
consumption, deliver an ultra low WUE, and achieve a lower
annualised PUE. This has been achieved all while supporting
double the compute capacity of an equivalent UK adiabatic
air-cooled facility.
